Download your DNA

Ever wonder about your genetic ancestry? Your risk for inherited diseases? Why your sibling has depression, but you don’t? For the first time, these answers and more are at your fingertips.
pH Labs has partnered with Genomics Personalized Health to take genomic testing out of the research lab and into your hands. Genomics Personalized Health is the first in the world to offer direct-to-consumer whole genome testing, and pH Labs is the first to bring it to you in Los Angeles County.
What is whole genome testing?
You may have heard of BRCA testing for breast cancer, or 23andme for ancestry testing. These services look at only a tiny fraction of the whole genetic code — just the areas scientists have already mapped out. But science is moving forward rapidly, and new areas of human DNA get decoded all the time. Getting your whole genome downloaded means that, every time a new gene is decoded, you’ll be able to look back at your own DNA and find out whether you have the “good” or “bad” gene.
For example, if a new area of DNA coding for heart disease is found, you can see if you test positive for it, since all the amino acids of your DNA will be known. Then, you can discuss the implications with your doctor and see if there are preventive supplements or diet changes you can make. In another example, knowing that your child has a gene for addiction can completely change the way you approach alcohol in your home.
Is it different than what else is out there?
Yes! Many other companies are offering what they call “whole genome testing.” In reality, these companies are doing exome testing. This refers to downloading only the areas of DNA that are thought to code for something (even if we don’t know exactly what, yet). But there are millions of other amino acids. When you download the whole sequence, according to scientists, testing for diseases and heritable conditions becomes more accurate.
How is this testing done?
It’s very easy. Genome testing doesn’t even require a blood sample. All you need is a saliva sample. Once your results come in, you will see a pH doctor to discuss the results and how to make the most of the information.
Whether you are planning to conceive a child, want to find out your cancer risk, or determine what conditions your family is predisposed to, genome testing offers the most cutting-edge of insights for being proactive with your health. Visit a pH health center near you to learn more.
