Is Married Life Making You Fat?

I came across this hilarious TikTok of a man devouring a plate of fried, fatty food that a woman cooked for him. He quickly goes from saying that he doesn’t want to be in a relationship to saying that he wants to marry the woman who made him such delicious food. This made me laugh out loud, but honestly all I can think when I watch this is; there is nothing green on his plate!

Be Proactive About Nutrition Before Pregnancy. Your Child’s Heart May Depend On It

March is National Nutrition Month, and I think many of us would agree that the nutrition of our children is of the utmost importance. What people may not realize, however, is that women need to consume a healthy diet even before getting pregnant. Our diet before pregnancy may affect the health of our future child.

Don't Let Your “Built Environment” Determine Your Health

In my opinion, many people underestimate the power of walking when it comes to overall health benefits. Maybe it’s because we tend to associate a good, effective workout with a lot of sweat and a rapidly beating heart.

Having Lower Hemoglobin May Have Health Benefits

Recent research suggests that being at the lower end of the normal hemoglobin range may have some health benefits. So, it turns out that in the case of hemoglobin, less may be good.

Pregnant Women Should Not Eat For Two, But Perhaps They Should Be Drinking Water For Two

I recall gaining nearly 60 pounds when I was pregnant. I just could not seem to gain enough weight to satisfy my doctor. And I was not underweight when I got pregnant.  At 5'10" I weighed about 145 pounds. By my ninth month, I was almost 200 pounds.  It used to be quite common for doctors and other to tell pregnant patients that they were eating for two. "Eat as much as you want and whatever you want. Now is the time to do it,”  they said.

Are You “Healthy Obese?” Here’s What You Need To Know

Super famous singer Lizzo is not exactly your average cookie-cutter pop star. She’s black, in her thirties, has a signature move of twerking on stage while simultaneously playing the flute and is what many people, including her most loyal fans and those with her body type, would call a “big girl.” So this brings me to the question...Is it possible to be a big girl and healthy?

Are Fasting & Golf The Fountain of Youth Combo We All Need?

Professional golfer Phil Mickelson recently won the P.G.A. Championship at 50-years old, reportedly making him the oldest winner of a major golf tournament. I by no means consider 50 to be old, but in the world of professional sports 50 is apparently "old." Mickelson beat players half his age, so, of course, everyone wants to know: what is his secret?

Why You Should Care About Carob, Especially If You Are Overweight

Healthy foods really can have magical effects. For example, foods high in vitamin C, such as lemon, orange, kiwi, broccoli and bell pepper, help prevent scurvy and may even help better manage diabetic foot ulcers and slow down aging of our skin. Carob powder appears to be another one of these magical foods.

A ‘Green Mediterranean Diet’ May Help Fight Fatty Liver Disease

An excessively fat liver is an unhealthy and possibly damaged liver. An accumulation of excess fat in the liver may be caused by being overweight or obese (which, of course, is usually the result of eating a poor, nutrient-void diet) and leading a sedentary lifestyle.

Think Eating Processed Food Is No Big Deal? The Effect It May Have On Your Immune System May Change Your Mind

Many Americans are now forced to assess their health and face the fact that it might be a good idea to finally get rid of excess weight and address metabolic issues. Being overweight or obese and/or having issues such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease are conditions that can wreak havoc on the immune system by promoting chronic inflammation and other problems.

Confused About COVID-19 Vaccines? This May Help.

If you’re confused about the different COVID-19 vaccines currently available (there are three as of now), as well as those in the pipeline, you are not alone. With the flood of information about the vaccines – some accurate and some not – it is only natural to wonder if they are safe, if they work, if one is better than another or whether you should wait for “the best.” You also may not be sure about how they work or what the difference is between “efficacy” and “effectiveness” when it comes to protecting you and your loved ones from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 disease. And if you’re like me, you probably want to know what you can do to stay healthy before you get vaccinated and whether there is anything you can do to maximize the vaccine’s protection.
